“Take Me to Bed Reds”

Last Saturday evening was our monthly wine tasting  at the Azalea Inn and Gardens B&B, Savannah, Ga. Our wine purveyor, Lori, performed her usual magic by bringing all of our guests to varying regions of the globe with her knowledge of wine.  For our weekend vacation, we traveled from Napa Valley with a Pinot Noir then  to Spain with the blended LaCartuja. Next we were off to a moody Shiraz from Australia and back to Washington State’s Columbia Valley Red Devil Merlot. The not to be out done finish was back to Italy and the Rose Brachetto. All in all the paired  food was fabulous and the company outrageously delightful.

For our luxury travel evening, we began our adventure with California’s Molnar Family Poseidon’s Pinot Noir featuring notes of strawberry and cherry paired with a sweet and savory BBQ Salmon over baby greens. Our next stop was the La Cartuja Priorat from Spain which has enticing flavors of lavender, black cherry blueberry, incense and roasted minerals complimenting the creamy white bean and chorizo soup pairing. Then it was off to Australia with a Schild Estatae Barossa Shiraz  offering a racy tobacco accented cherryand black currant fruitiness finishing with  dried sage, licorce and fresh cream to be paired with the fig chipotle BBQ lamb on sweet potato mash. Next we visited the Velvet Devil Merlot from the great state of Washington hinting of bittersweet chocolate, dark cherries and sweet rose petals matched with the perfect Italian sausage and mozzerella pizza.  To culminate the evening, the rich and sweet Italian I Quaranta Le Rose Brachetto d’Acqui was served with the frozen perfection Framboise Mousse drizzled with apricot sauce and fresh raspberries.

What a blast! We enjoyed each of our guests who participated. Many stories were shared. We even toasted the newly weds from the Zeigler House Inn. Most everyone commented on the great week-end deal, tasting fabulous wine along with perfectly paired food. “Couldn’t ask for a better introduction to Savannah” said the four guests staying with me at the Green Palm Inn.
